Greetings Fellow Senators, friends and guests to our site,
My predecessor said last year that
we, the NC JCI Senate, are used to achieving what we aspire to.
This year, we are continuing the push to achieve...and to excel.
You and I and others who preceded
us, have created one of the most effective and recognized service
organizations in the world. We all are a significant part of this
ongoing effort, particularly as we spend what precious time we have to
do good--while having some fun as well. It's an excellent
tradition.
Actually, Aristotle (384-322 BCE) said it best....
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
For these reasons, I've adopted the mantra, Excellence In Action
for this year. Alone, the phrase is meaningless, but when we look
back and recall the achievements of the Jaycees since our inception,
and the continuous efforts of our members, it takes on a powerful,
meaningful relevance as to what we need to do on a daily basis.
A steady-as-she-goes approach to
challenges and their solutions will serve us well, and we'll make
adjustments as needed. So as the year progresses, I encourage you
to
keep your focus on the grand scheme of improving the lives of people,
no matter how large or small an effort. Little things together
can amount to impressive results.
I also challenge you to ask
yourself, when was the last time you recruited a new Jaycee? You
don't need to think about the answer, just act on it! I'll be
visiting all the chapters in my region of the state, and a number of
others, so if you'd like me to visit a chapter, send me a note.
I wish you success in your goals,
whether personal, work or Jaycee related. And, I look forward to
serving and learning more with you this year, and having fun along the
way!
